Eirados Tawny Port, Portugal

£18.99

Originally known as the Quinta Santa Eufamia, the Eirados Douro estate was established in 1864 by Bernardo Rodrigues de Carvalho. The winery is on the site of a roman grain store or ‘eirado’.

All wines produced are from the family’s own 50 hectares of vines and are based on Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and other traditional varieties. Open ‘lagars’ are used for the crush.

Eirados Tawny is aged for at least four years in large old casks. Tawny as a style is more mellow than ‘ruby’ and highlights flavours of plum, dried fruits and a gentle nuttiness.

Try with aged hard cheeses or almond tart.
