Eirados Douro Red, Portugal

Originally known as the Quita Santa Eufemia, the eirados douro estate was founded in 1864 by Bernardo Rodrigues de Carvalho. The winery is on the site of a roman grain store or ‘eirado’.

The estate concentrates its production on Port wines, but releases a little Douro Red.

Composed of Touriga Nacional (30%), Tinta Roriz (30%), Touriga Franca (20%) and Tinta Amarela (20%), this is a rounded generous red with notes of plum, and cherry, fine tannins and with the freshness that some reds from the region lack.

Try with lamb or hearty vegetable casseroles.
